Today I watched two movies: the black & white "Cul-de-Sac" from 1966, and "Our Little Sister" from 2015 (Japan).

Cul-de-Sac was interesting. Two small-time crooks wind up outside (and then inside) a castle owned by a married couple in northern England. It probably wouldn't be classified as a good movie, but I enjoyed it.

Our Little Sister, on the other hand, was fantastic. It is the story of 3 sisters who discover upon their father's passing, that they have a half-sister, who winds up coming to live with them. A charming movie that I actually began over a week ago, and then finished today.

Combined, they were a great way to pass a rainy day before my 3-8 pm work shift.

...Day Off!

I watched "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" this morning with coffee and some apple pie that Sarah made yesterday (I had dinner there last night with Dad & Ma, while Hayden drove to Philly to pick up a corgi puppy).

And I did miscellaneous household chores while I hung out online playing Elvenar, reading "Harry Potter" #7, and eating pizza.

Spider-Man

I saw "Spider-Man: Homecoming" tonight with Jason & his crew, Sarah & hers (minus Hayden), Holly & hers (minus Kevin), and Ma. Thanks J!

What a great movie! So much humor, cool action, and many MCU tie-ins. There were a few minor things I didn't care for, but they aren't even worth mentioning.

After the movie, J & Stacie & Cooper & I stopped at Kay's for ice cream. I haven't been there in a decade or so.

I hung around Dad & Ma's with them until they headed back to Worcester, and then off to Florida for a week with Stacie's family. I always hate it when they leave, but it's always great to see them when they are here...

1st New Payday

I got my first "new" check from FD. The bulk of it went to pay the electric bill. Twenty bucks went to Domino's for 2 pizzas (enough for 4 meals). The rest went to Hannaford (around 9 pm), for food to get me to next week's payday (of which only $50 is allocated to necessity - the phone bill). Starbucks Sumatra and a blueberry muffin went together nicely for a late supper.

Also, I watched "Passengers" from 10:30 pm to 12:30 am. It was a fantastic movie. The special effects were amazing. I do have to say that while it was a selfish act, I feel that what Jim did 99% of people would also do it in his situation (including Aurora) had Jim died early on. Only a tiny fraction of humanity would be able to go it solo for their entire life. A harsh thing to admit, but true. Eventually I would have done the same thing, so judge me as you will...

A Long Time Ago (Again)...

I went to see "Rogue One: A Star Wars Tale" again today. I'm not sure if I enjoyed it more the first time or this time. But it was worth seeing on the big screen again. It just stinks that K-2SO had to die.

Rogue One

After having planned on going to see it on Monday (and arriving to a full parking lot because it was a default New Year's Day holiday), I finally managed to see "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" today.

The movie was really great for the most part, but I have a few problems with it:

1. No opening scroll. I wasn't dropped into the "Star Wars" universe in the traditional manner.
2. The music was too different (in too many places) from the original John Williams work. Too many 'higher register' note pieces, and not enough iconic pieces. It's still the Rebellion!
3. Felicity Jones was horrible. I felt ZERO connection to her character, Jyn Erso. She was merely a plot device around which all the other characters revolved (if that). I never resonated with her emotions, motivation, or peril.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the movie very much. It was a cool story, and the cameos and links to the other films were awesome. My favorite characters were:

• K-2SO
• Bodhi Rook - an Empire pilot who has defected.
• Galen Erso - Jyn's father (and designer of the Death Star).
• Baze Malbus - the 'big gunner', partner in crime of the blind Chirrut Îmwe, who was pretty cool too.

I plan on seeing it one more time before it leaves theaters.

P.S: When i got home, Chumble attacked my foot, I guess he missed me haha!
